Fish Pose (matsyasana) is a gentle backbend that stimulates the crown of the head and the pituitary gland. The activiation of these areas helps to balance the body (all seven chakras become more open and aligned – visit What the heck are chakras? for more information on chakras). As well, the hypothalumus and neo cortex areas of the brain are awakened, releasing endorphines, which makes you feel better, and firing synapses, increasing brain function. Its also a fun way for kids to look at the world upside down fostering creativity, insight, and new approaches to problem solving.
