Steps to Bringing Yoga to Your School – Find Examples

Many teachers want to bring yoga into their school. However, they are not sure what steps to take in order to make this desire a reality. Over the course of the next few months I will outline a step by step process which, when followed, will enable teachers to bring the benefits of yoga into their classrooms and schools. Step 1 – Know the Benefits can be found here.

Step 2 – Find Examples of Successful Yoga Programs

From playschool to high school yoga is arriving in schools everywhere. Some schools however hesitate to be the first to undertake something new and different. By learning where yoga is being implemented successfully, teachers can show administrators and parents that yoga is now mainstream and has many benefits for their children.  So take some time to learn where it has been successfully implemented and how it has impacted students and teachers by checking out these links.  Some examples of successful implementation of yoga in schools include:

  1. What a fantastic and generous idea Donna – thank you! Thanks also for the shout out to Yoga 4 Classrooms. The fully-illustrated Y4C Teacher’s Guide is near ready for print and the local programming here will soon be expanded nationally. We are thrilled to have created a comprehensive program addressing social, emotional and physical health – specifically designed for the space-limited, time-crunched classroom. It’s been a 3 yr. development project involving a ton of research, loads of feedback from teachers and administration, and a 2 yr. pilot program at a local school. The first seminars are planned for the spring. Having said that, you are absolutely correct that it can be challenging to get these types of programs up off the ground at schools. Your tips will be invaluable to anyone seeking to bring yoga and mindfulness education to the education environment. Thank you!

  2. This is awesome!! I am so thrilled to see how many wonderful organizations and resources have successfully brought yoga to the classroom. My own child benefits from ChildLight Yoga’s presence in her school, and I had the opportunity to witness a class when I was volunteering in the classroom. The children were so receptive to learning different breathing techniques, fun poses and singing songs with positive messages. Keep up the great work – you are spreading something amazing throughout the world!
