Yoga 4 Classrooms Card Deck ROCKS!

This contest is now closed – Thanks to everyone for entering & the many, many comments & sharing. Totally blew me away with your inspiration & love of #kidsyoga.

You really, truly need to get your hands on the fabulous Yoga 4 Classroom card deck. Today. And #YIMS is here to help.

This well thought-out deck is packed with yoga and mindfulness ideas that are easy to use in the classroom. Ideal for Elementary Schools, and even Middle Schools, the deck is comprised of 67 over-sized (6″x8″) cards, sturdy enough to withstand daily use by teachers and youth.

Lisa Flynn of ChildLight Yoga has done a fabulous job  of providing step-by-step instructions as well as additional creative applications on every card. The illustrations by James Vaughn are bright, cheerful and depict children of diverse ethnicities and abilities.

I especially like how the cards are color coded according to the rainbow/chakras making it easy to find a yoga-based activity to meet students’ needs quickly. As well, the cards cover so much more than yoga poses including breathing exercises, body-awareness, affirmations, mindful meditations, healthy living tips, and more.

Red: Stand Strong -  teaching empowerment through yoga poses

Orange: At Your Desk – need a yoga break but can’t leave the desk, try these

Yellow: Loosen Up – great stress relievers and community builders

Green: Be Well – the yamas & niyamas so kids can understand

Blue: Let’s Breathe – conscious breathing can make all the difference

Purple: Imagination Vacation – guided visualizations develop creativity & harness inner wisdom

how to teach yoga at school? just listen to the children!! they’ll guide you, you can have your program very well done, but in the end children need to be listened to, so with tools such as the cards you can do a very versatil class, being capable of addapt your class to the children’s interests.

I am a brand new teacher, so I do not have a class yet, but I think yoga is a great way to engage the kids in movement breaks, calming the students or getting them aroused. I am currently working in a classroom that does lots of deep breathing exercises which helps them regain focus and relieve frustration.

I use yoga as part of my schoolbased physical therapy treatment

I teach a Wellness/Healthy Living class to high school students (public school) in Rhode Island
Yoga is the backbone of our curriculum. Many concepts (nutrition, self care, positive thinking) can be taught through yoga. When we are away from the practice for a while the students notice and request “more yoga”.!!

  13. Morgan says:

I started teaching yoga to pre-school age a few years ago. They LOVE IT! They are always ready to move and I enjoy keeping them active and then slowly getting them to wind down towards relaxing. I am always looking for new information and ways to teach them. I’ve been asked to teach a summer program for ages 7+ which would be great to have these cards!

  14. Morgan says:

    Just ‘liked’ yoga 4 classrooms

  15. Susan says:

Use the pet store yoga poses with my high anxiety kids. I now have one third grader who goes back and teaches the poses to her class. She is so proud of herself. One of the boys who really gets into it. It’s so much fun to watch them get excited about yoga.

  16. Mairin says:

I use yoga in my classroom whenever we need a body break – especially on those rainy indoor recess days!

  17. Malika Omawale says:

I use mindfulness and yoga after my morning meetings as a way to center the kids. Also we do yoga in P.E. class and they love it!

  18. Kristin Troutman says:

I’m a school social worker and have done yoga with all ages! I currently work in a preschool and they need movement breaks so often. Many have mastered “deep belly breaths” and use it when they start feeling mad. They like laying on their bellies to feel their breathing and bellies against the floor. The love learning various “animal poses”. Would love to win your deck of cards.

Hi! What a great tool for practicing yogis, teachers and kids! I am a certified yoga instructor and for the last couple of summers I have volunteered teaching kids yoga in early childhood centers and in my communities non-profit organizations for children. I could use this deck to help me teach and come up with great class ideas to keep the children’s interest and also learn new techniques for my use as well. Thank you so much for allowing this opportunity for us to win a chance to own this great learning/teaching deck. I am also an artist and think this is such a fun colorful set of cards! I always read the tips from your emails, on the website and newsletter (I love The Pet Store, and have applied it in my teachings). In addition, I “liked” Yoga 4 Classrooms on Facebook too! Thank you again!

I am a school social worker and kids’ yoga teacher! I love sharing yoga with all ages and would love to add these cards and ideas to my classes. I volunteered to do a workshop for teachers at my son’s school to share ideas of yoga poses and breathing techniques they could do with their students, especially before tests. I hope to have the opportunity to share more ideas with them!

  35. Lisa Flynn says:

Congrats Kristin!!! We look forward to hearing about your experiences using the deck with your students. Thanks to everyone for entering and to Donna and yogainmyschool.com for sponsoring the giveaway!

Kudos to everyone who wrote in about their adventures sharing yoga with children. It’s incredibly inspiring to read through the posts. It wasn’t so long ago that sharing yoga and mindfulness education with children in general, never mind in schools(!), was a novel concept. With more and more evidence backing up the effectiveness of these practices to improve learning-readiness, social/emotional health and even test scores, and more peaceful and productive students and teachers, they are becoming increasingly popular. Thank YOU ALL for joining the movement.
