Yoga Match Game Fabulous Fun {Review & Giveaway}

Yoga Match Game

Here at YIMS we’ve been busy collecting and compiling yoga games to include in our soon to be released Yoga Games Galore book. One of the games we love and are including in the book is Yoga Memory. The very day we were adding it, Janet Williams of Childrens Yoga Books got in touch telling me about Yoga Match: A Memory & Movement Card Game. (Gotta luv serendipity.)

Played like concentration or Memory, Yoga Match involves flipping over two cards at a time in order to find a match. If you find a match you do victory pose. If you don’t find a match you do both poses, then flip the cards back over and try again.
As you can guess kids LOVE Yoga Match. It’s familiar rules allow them to jump right into playing the game. The challenge of finding a match is wonderful for developing concentration, recognition and recall. Adding the yoga element allows for active learning promoting strength, flexibility, creative expression, cognition and self-regulation.

The deck is comprised of 30 cards (15 yoga poses) plus one instructional card. The game can be played individually or in teams making it adaptable to various size groups in the home or classroom/studio. Bonus is that you can always use the cards themselves as a yoga card deck for any number of other activities which require visuals as a teaching aid.

Things I like about Yoga Match:

  • familiar rules get you playing right away
  • charming illustrations of both a boy & girl doing the poses
  • easy to transport – pop in your purse/pocket
  • sturdy cards can take a lot of use
  • FUN!

I’m definitely looking forward to using this game with my kids and teen yoga classes this fall and know it will be a class fave.

You can purchase Yoga Match from Childrens Yoga Books online store for $19.99 CAD (a current savings of $6.00).

My current favorite yoga game is musical mats. Kids move from mat to mat (in a circle) as fun music plays and then when it stop they flip over the card on the mat with a pose (can make your own or use the Yoga for classrooms or Yoga pretzels cards) where the stop and everyone does the pose on their card. Love the memory card idea and hope to win one to be able to use in on of my classes! Thanks!

  2. Amy says:

A favorite yoga game is ‘sleeping crocodiles’. We lie down on our bellies and begin to snore while one child carefully tiptoes through our legs. If we feel or hear her, the sleeping beasts awaken and snap their jaws!

Hi! My fave yoga game would be Freeze Dance.Kids dance or run along to lively music, when the music stops they freeze in a yoga pose. You can let the kids freeze in their fav pose of call one out for them. They just love it and always ask for this game,so I usually save it until the later portion.
    I liked Childrens Yoga Books!

My group likes the Island game from YogaEd. Its like musical chairs; when the music stops, you have to land on an “island” doing a yoga pose with some part of your body touching the island. As the islands are taken away, it becomes a cooperative game. At the end everybody is touching one island and doing their own poses.
The Yoga Match game looks like fun!

  6. The kids ALWAYS love the freeze dance. A new favorite of mine is moving along to the song “Yoga Slide” by Haris Lender from Kidding Around Yoga. The kids love that one too!

  7. I liked Children’s Yoga Books on FB, Shared the Giveaway on FB, tweeted linking back to you, and re-pinned on Pinterest.

  11. NURIA says:

Hello, my name is Nuria and my favorite game is the game of the pompoms: You put a lot of pompoms in the center of a circle of children and put plastic cups and baskets outside the circle. Children must keep their hands behind their backs and use only their feet to get the pompoms and drop the baskets. Children enjoy using only one foot, collecting pompoms with both feet, or distribute the pompoms in different colors within the baskets. is fun and hold the attention throughout the game!.

  12. Amy says:

We love to play “yoga pretzels” form the yoga pretzels card deck…taking turns, each child is teacher and names a body part to touch to the ground, to form some sort of “pose”…”elbows, knees, chin, toes”….Every time I have used this in class, it has been a hit!Kids are empowered, because they are teacher, creating poses for their class, and we are all trying out something new with our bodies! I am so excited there is a new, fun game to incorporate! We are ready!!!!

These cards look like a great supplement! Look like so much fun & helpful tool to aid in teaching yoga poses. I’m proudly working as a Program Assistant at a Child Development Center at an USMC base in North Carolina at a Child. Serving our military families has been an honor. Yoga is a major part of my life and implementing at my work has been phenomenal. The kids have very much enjoyed yoga lessons and I am in process of getting other teachers involved with yoga, too. The YogaInMySchool website has been so easy to use & incredibly helpful to me when I was trying to figure out the best way to teach the yoga to the kids. I have liked both the YogaInMySchool & ChildrensYogaBook on Facebook. This yoga match game would be an excellent resource to have to help implement the yoga practice. Thanks for an amazing informative website!

  24. Jen Mueller says:

I play a variation of move & freeze to Lori Berkner’s “Sneaks” that I call Sneaky Trees. The kids tiptoe around the room when the music plays and freeze in the poses I call out when it stops. (No problem sharing this but feel free to credit me with the idea and/or track me down and follow me on Facebook as a way of saying thanks.)
